Beware of Coronavirus scams
Herefordshire Council’s Trading Standards team is warning people to remain vigilant following a rise in Coronavirus-related scams happening in the county. Here are examples of current scams we are investigating:
- Fake sanitisers, face masks and COVID-19 swabbing kits being sold online and door-to-door. These products can often be dangerous and unsafe.
- Supplements and anti-virus kits which falsely claim to cure or prevent COVID-19.
- Criminals claiming to represent charities which help people who are self-isolating. In reality they are misleading the public into donating and then take the victim’s money.
- Companies offering fake holiday refunds for individuals who have been forced to cancel their trips. People seeking refunds should also be wary of fake websites set up to claim holiday refunds.
Please ignore these scams and make sure more vulnerable and elderly members of the public are aware too. If you suspect a scam, or that a family member has been the victim of a scam, call the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 0808 223 1133
