How We Can Help

How Home-Start can help you and your family

Being a parent is not easy and at some time most parents need somebody – preferably somebody who has been there and survived – to talk to about their feelings and concerns. They need somebody with time to sit and listen, to sympathise and to offer some support.

Home-Start volunteers come from all walks of life and have a wealth of parenting experience. They offer a mixture of practical help and emotional support.

Volunteers usually visit once a week for 2 to 3 hours. You decide how to use that time.

You may need

Home-Start volunteers are not babysitters, home helps or trained counsellors, although they may give practical help looking after children and they will always listen.

The volunteers will visit for as long as you need them or until your youngest child turns five.

All Home-Start volunteers are fully trained and carefully matched to families.

They have to provide references and undergo a criminal records check at enhanced level.

Home-Start Herefordshire runs groups for families, in Kington, Hereford City and Ross-on-Wye.
